Tories Election Expenses Scandal
Given the potential seriousness of the allegations made by Channel 4 about criminality and electoral fraud at the last election, I would have expected this to be the lead item for nearly all papers and news sites? Doesn't look like its been given too much prominence so far.

MPs could be criminally prosecuted, barred from holding public office and up to 29 by-elections might need to be called in key marginal seats. That's before you get to the Tories deliberately misleading the Electoral Commission and being taken to Court as a result.

I accept that this is all worse case scenario and nothing has been proved as yet, but surely this is one of the biggest stories for some time? Not least because of the Anti-corruption conference Cameron is fronting and his overheard comments about corruption in Nigeria and Afghanistan. It looks like he's up to his neck in it and that the Tories broke the law in buying the last election. Might explain why the polls were so wrong.

Good work by Channel 4:

Don't expect to hear a lot about it in the press, they're pretty good at covering this type of thing up and that includes the bbc , surprise, surprise.

Re: Tories Election Expenses Scandal
It has been on channel four but for some reason it's hardly been mentioned on any other news channel despite it being reported about a month ago.

I would rather see them held accountable for the deaths of those that they said were 'fit for work' and were not.

MODERN DAY POLITICAL SCANDALS ARE SHIT

Re: Tories Election Expenses Scandal
I guess it depends on whether you consider political corruption to be scandalous or not...

In the UK some of the most notorious political scandals have been sex/sleaze related, but there have been others too - MPs expenses, cash for questions etc...

Electoral fraud is generally considered to be a prime example of political corruption. If we were talking about the potential criminal rigging of an election in Nigeria, I'm sure we wouldn't take exception if it was described as a scandal.

It stinks, but it's hard to believe only one party was at it.

BBC still playing the Conservative game as charter still under threat. Murdoch press are so I n with the Tories that they bury anything negative. Central Office becoming adept at throwing out stories to act as cover. Then the Labour infighting being so ridiculous that they keep gifting their main opponents with gilt edged stories that allow them to divert attention from anything they wish.
Ch 4 does seem to be the new public interest news service because the BBC kowtowed long ago.

I love how people think that the "road to wigan pier" bbc has somehow kowtowed to the conservatives.

And while we're on this supposed scandal. Where is the scandal exactly?

Re: Tories Election Expenses Scandal
It's a massive scandal.

However, I suspect the reason that Labour haven't gone ballistic over it is because they were doing it as well. If not, I don't understand why they're not really going to town over it.
